To further improve the diagnosis and treatment of chronic lung disease in infants and young children, deepen the concept of cardiopulmonary integration, and promote international academic exchange and cooperation, the Asia-Pacific Health Association, the Pediatric Medicine Branch of the Asia-Pacific Health Association, and Hainan Modern Women and Children’s Hospital will jointly organize the “Asia-Pacific Medical Conference on Chronic Lung Disease in Infants and Young Children (2026 Hainan) and the Life-Course Management Training Program” in Haikou, China, from November 5 to 7, 2026. Theme: Cardiopulmonary Integration Ultrasound Practical Training Workshop [Limited-Enrollment Intensive Practical Session]

7.4.1 Learning Outcomes

(1) Update knowledge and establish a new clinical mindset

Reframe BPD as “alveolar–capillary coupling disorder + cardiopulmonary syndrome”; understand the full pathophysiological chain from increased pulmonary vascular resistance to pulmonary hypertension and right-heart failure, and develop integrated ventilation–blood flow–ventricle clinical thinking.

(2) Master key points in bedside ultrasound image recognition

Master interpretation of key cardiac and pulmonary ultrasound views in children with BPD and rapidly identify pulmonary hypertension, right-heart dysfunction, septal displacement, pulmonary venous congestion, and pulmonary edema.

(3) Master a closed-loop clinical decision-making process

Apply the complete “ultrasound assessment – condition assessment – treatment adjustment – reassessment” loop directly to bedside practice in critically ill preterm infants in the NICU.

(4) Immersive small-group, hands-on practical training

Multiple professional bedside ultrasound devices will be provided for small-group teaching. Each group will have an experienced training instructor for hands-on standardized scanning, supported by an OSCE checklist for self-assessment and skills improvement.

(5) Case review + post-course implementation

Scenario-based practical training will use real severe-BPD cases, with pre- and post-course competency assessment and targeted clinical assignments to support implementation in participants’ own departments.

7.4.2 Design Concept

BPD has moved beyond the traditional single-disease definition of “chronic lung disease” and is redefined as “alveolar–capillary coupling disorder + cardiopulmonary syndrome.” The core adverse pathway is: abnormal pulmonary vascular development → increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) → pulmonary hypertension (BPD-PH) → right-heart failure → leftward septal shift → impaired left-ventricular filling → pulmonary venous congestion and pulmonary edema.

The workshop uses the integrated ventilation–blood flow–ventricle model as its core teaching line, emphasizing clinical skills and implementation rather than pure theory. The course design includes 70 minutes of theory and case analysis, 90 minutes of rotating hands-on practice, and 20 minutes of assessment, Q&A, and feedback, completing a full “assessment → decision → execution” loop.
