6.4 November 7 (Saturday) 19:00–22:00 | Special Workshop

Theme: Integrated Cardiopulmonary Ultrasound Practical Training Workshop [Limited-Enrollment Advanced Hands-on Course]

6.4.1 Learning Outcomes

(1)Update knowledge, establish a new clinical mindset

Reconceptualize bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) as an “alveolar-capillary coupling disorder plus cardiopulmonary syndrome,” understand the complete pathological chain from increased pulmonary vascular resistance to pulmonary hypertension and right-heart failure, and establish an integrated ventilation-perfusion-ventricle clinical mindset.

(2)Master the key points of bedside ultrasound image recognition

Master the interpretation of key cardiac and lung ultrasound views at the bedside for children with BPD, and rapidly and accurately identify pulmonary hypertension, impaired right-heart function, interventricular septal displacement, pulmonary venous congestion, pulmonary edema and other core ultrasound signs.

(3)Master the closed-loop clinical decision-making process

Master the complete closed-loop process of ultrasound assessment, clinical evaluation, treatment adjustment and reassessment. All techniques can be directly applied in bedside practice for critically ill preterm infants in the NICU.

(4)Immersive, small-group, step-by-step practical training

Multiple professional bedside ultrasound systems will be available on site. Small-group instruction will be provided, with an experienced dedicated instructor for each group to demonstrate standardized scanning techniques step by step. A standardized OSCE scoring checklist will support self-review and rapid standardization of practice.

(5)Case review + post-course implementation

Real severe-BPD cases will be used for scenario-based practical exercises, together with pre- and post-training competency assessments. Targeted clinical practice assignments will be provided after the course to ensure that learning is acquired at the venue, usable in the department and translated into results.

6.4.2 Design Concept

BPD (bronchopulmonary dysplasia) has moved beyond the traditional single definition of “chronic lung disease” and is newly defined as an “alveolar-capillary coupling disorder plus cardiopulmonary syndrome.” The core vicious cycle is: abnormal pulmonary vascular development → increased pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) → pulmonary hypertension (BPD-PH) → right-heart failure → leftward displacement of the interventricular septum → impaired left-ventricular filling → worsening pulmonary venous congestion and pulmonary edema.

This workshop uses the integrated ventilation-perfusion-ventricle model as its core teaching framework. It moves beyond purely theoretical instruction and focuses on practical clinical implementation. The course is structured as 70 minutes of lectures and case analysis, 90 minutes of rotational group hands-on training, and 20 minutes of assessment, questions and feedback, simulating real clinical scenarios throughout and completing a full assessment-to-decision-to-action closed loop.
